25M POOL
The 400m swim takes place in the 25m pool inside the Edge Hill University Sports Centre and requires competitors to complete 16 lengths of the pool. Swimmers are allocated individual start times and lanes based on the estimated swim time submitted during entry, with slower swimmers starting first to ensure a smooth flow throughout the race. The pool-based format provides a controlled and accessible environment, making it ideal for both first-time triathletes and experienced competitors looking for a fast start to the event. Clear poolside briefings, lane counters and event marshals will be in place throughout the swim to support athletes and maintain safe, efficient race conditions for all participants.
ROAD
The 21km bike route consists of three laps of the West Lancashire Spring Triathlon cycling course, taking riders out from Edge Hill University and onto the surrounding Lancashire roads. The route combines fast sections, steady climbs and flowing turns through areas including Scarth Hill Lane, Whiteley’s Lane, Wigan Road, School Lane, Vicarage Lane and Ruff Lane, creating an enjoyable and well-balanced ride for competitors of all abilities. Several sections of the course benefit from traffic management and partial road closures to help provide a smooth and safe racing experience. Clear signage, marshals and controlled campus access points will be in place throughout the route to support navigation, maintain rider safety and ensure an efficient flow for all participants.
path/trail
The 5km run route follows a fast and flat two-lap course around the purpose-built running trails at Edge Hill University Sports Centre. The route is mainly on tarmac surfaces with some short gravel sections underfoot, before finishing with an exciting final 400m on the athletics track in front of the Sports Centre. The well-organised course is designed to suit both first-time triathletes and experienced competitors looking to maintain a strong pace through the final stage of the race. Clear signage, marshals and a drinks station will be positioned throughout the run course to support navigation, maintain safety and help athletes stay hydrated as they make their way towards the finish line.
